- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Introduction ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
-
- Welcome to Just Another Version of Attacks (JAVA), a clone of a semi well-known
- arcade game. JAVA was known as YOVA/2 in a past life, but it was ported from
- Windoze, the interface upgraded, and was given a new life and a new name. The
- upgraded interface/new graphics is the biggest revision to the game for v2.0
- and will be IMMEDIATELY noticeable to my old fans. I got tired of seeing good
- OS/2 programs suffer from ugliness. I decided to raise the bar and call in
- some guys I know to soup up the graphics for JAVA. The game now will now
- auto-detect the color-depth of your desktop and optimize itself for that color
- palette. The game now supports 16, 256, 65,536 and 16,777,216 color palettes!
- I have much more planned for the future, but I hope you like what you see.
- Special thanks go out to Eben Stewart for writing the AI routines and general
- consultation on the overall design of the program. Well, enough preamble! I
- hope you enjoy the game, and don't forget to do other things like eat, sleep,
- breath...

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1. A Note About the AI Routines ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
-
- A note about the AI (computer player) routines - this was my first attempt at
- an 'intelligent' computer player - it turned out that it is much smarter than I
- had intended - even the beginner is quite hard. As stated in the dialog box,
- none of the routines release control to the system until a move is chosen (I
- know, bad Windows Programmer, bad Windows Programmer). I am working on this
- for the final release.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Playing Instructions ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
-
- Well, now that you have the game installed, the burning question on your mind
- must be, "How do I play it?" At first the game might appear to be somewhat
- confusing, but is really quite simple if you understand the two types of moves
- available to you. Here are the instructions:
-
- To play Select a piece, by clicking on it with the left button.
- Select an empty place to put the the piece down and click on it. Any of the
- enemies pieces that your piece touches, becomes yours.
-
- Selecting any of the eight surrounding squares will place a new piece down and
- leave the original piece. In example 1, to the right, picture the upper
- left-most piece as the original piece. You then selected it and moved it down
- diagonally to the right. You now have two pieces.
-
- Selecting any 16 squares that are two squares away from the point of origin
- will place a new piece down, but it will REMOVE the old piece. In examples 2a
- and 2b, to the right, you have selected the same piece as in example 1,
- however, you have moved it two squares away. With this type of move, you only
- retain your original piece however, and it is moved to the new space on the
- board.
-
- These are the only valid moves. To win, have the most pieces or capture all of
- you opponents pieces.
-
- If you have no moves you can pass. (F9 or select pass from the menu)
-
- If you beat the computer in single player mode, the board will clear and spaces
- will be removed. You cannot put a piece on the squares.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Registration ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
-
- JAVA is shareware. This means that it is not free. The amount required to
- register JAVA is $10 US. That's it. "What will it get me," you ask?
- Well, first of all, it will give you a clear conscience. Second of all, it
- will get you the newest version of the full game. The full game will have more
- playing pieces to choose from and more levels. It will also entitle you to any
- new revisions within the 2.x level for free, if you have an EMAIL address. If
- not, a small shipping charge will be applied. Bulk orders (10 or more) are
- available at a discounted rate. Please see ORDER.FRM for more information on
- registration.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Future Plans ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
-
- Future plans for JAVA include better AI, MMPM/2 extensions (sound), and if
- enough customer support is shown, network play. Please let me know what
- features you would like to see in future versions.
